Get to know YOU - personality tests

Personal awareness allows you to better understand how you function and how you make decisions from day to day. When you know yourself, you can use that knowledge to your advantage. Personality tests are a great way to learn where your strengths and weaknesses lie.

The first step in making sure you are set up for success and playing to your strengths is to identify your personality type. We have pulled a few of our favorite tests to help you explore your personality traits a little more.

Myers-Briggs Personality test:

The Myers-Briggs test will help you recognize where you land on the spectrum of eight different personality traits.

Here is a VERY brief explanation of each of these eight personality traits:

You can find the Myers-Briggs test in the "Downloadables" section of this page. Spend a little time with these questions and enjoy learning about yourself!

The Color Personality Test

The Color Personality Test was designed by Jacob Adamo. It uses colors to organize personality traits into four categories.

RED: The What - Reds care much less about the process and more about the results, less about risk and more about the reward. They tend to be firy and confident; they don't get intimidated and are unapologetic.

BLUE: The Why - Blues are the life of the party. They love fun and excitement and gravitate toward the question "Why?" Why should I do this? Why does that interest me? Why do I need it? If there's not a good reason, then blues won't do it.

GREEN: The How - Greens are the analytical types. They are not comfortable with split-second decisions and don't like being pressured. They love systems and organization. Their focused question is "How?" How does it work? How can we be more efficient? How can I use this to better myself? They gravitate toward facts and logic.

YELLOW: The Who - Yellows are compassionate and sympathetic. They communicate through support and encouragement. Materialism does not motivate Yellows. They are driven by the question "Who?" Who is this going to benefit? Who can I help with this?

Knowing which color you are, or what combination of colors you are, can help you work smarter, not harder.

5 Love Languages:

"I want you to WANT to do the dishes." The famous quote from The Breakup says it all, doesn't it? Had Vince Vaughn really understood that Jennifer Aniston's love language was likely "Acts of Service," they might have been able to understand each other better and salvage their relationship. But then, there wouldn't have been much of a script for a movie, would there?

Knowing your love language and your partner's love language will help you communicate better. This can also benefit your relationships with friends and co-workers. Here is the breakdown of the 5 Love Languages developed by Dr. Gary Chapman, a renowned marriage counselor.

Words of Affirmation: Expressing affection through spoken affection, praise, or appreciation. If this is your love language, unsolicited compliments mean the world to you.

Acts of Service: Actions, rather than words, are used to show and receive love. Laziness, broken commitments, and making more work for speakers of this language tells them that their feelings don’t matter.

Receiving Gifts: Gifting is symbolic of love and affection. If you speak this language, the perfect gift or gesture shows that you are known, you are cared for, and you are prized above whatever was sacrificed to bring the gift to you.

Quality Time: Expressing affection with undivided, undistracted attention. For a person with this love language, distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful to them.

Physical Touch: With this love language, the speaker feels affection through physical touch. It can be sex or holding hands. Physical presence and accessibility are crucial, while physical neglect or abuse can be unforgivable and destructive.

BONUS EXERCISE

Ask someone close to you to take these tests as well: your spouse/significant other, boss, coworker, child; or someone with whom you would like to develop a close relationship. Exchange results and reflect on your relationship.

What aspects make you strong together and what aspects cause conflict? How can you work together to understand the areas where you are different and how can you use this understanding to your advantage in your relationship?

Open Day 5 of Your Workbook...

Write down the personality type you identified for yourself by taking the Myers-Briggs, color personality, and love language tests. Do you think they sound like you? What are some positive attributes that you feel help you from day to day? What are some attributes that might negatively affect your success when it comes to health and wellness?

Write down one person you are close to who you think would benefit from taking these tests and ask them to take a few moments to explore the questions. Then, share your results with one another.

How are you two similar or different? How can you use your personality types to work together in communicating with one another?

NOTE: We are only suggesting that you give these tests to one person, but the MORE people you give the tests to and compare notes with, the more successful you will be in your relationships.

Share in the comments

Share your Myers-Briggs results, your primary and secondary colors and your love language results in the comments of this lesson. Do you feel they are accurate? If not, what traits do you feel do not accurately describe your personality?
